Aircraft nose art has a long tradition in American aviation, and continues to grow in popularity in and outside the aviation community.  Personalizing your leather jacket or your ride,  whether it be a Cessna 195 or a Harley Street Glide with a winning character or a winsome lady is as easy as email!

Using only the best  quality materials and tested processes, Victory Girl creates  custom, handpainted flight jackets, custom nose art designs , company aviation designs,  nose art ‘portraits’  and  the ultimate in ‘bling’.    Looking for that special image but cant find it?    With our library of hundreds and hundreds of historic nose art photos, we can help identify a nose art piece, or, create one from scratch.

VictoryGirl provides free nose art design services for active military units.

We are proud to support our troops, both at home and abroad, with nose art design services at no charge.  This means we’ll create your design sketch, based on the unit requests and requirements, no charge.  Painting the artwork and reproduction of the art is also at a reduced cost for active military units.  See examples, below of  modern nose art pieces created recently for our military.

Nose Art Design Process

You might have a detailed concept of artwork you’d have put on your airplane, or, you might just like blondes and your CO gave the go-ahead to get some personal markings on your airplane.    You might want to re-create the flight jacket your grandfather flew over Europe in in WWII, with only some old B&W photos as reference.    Good enough!   Give us a call or an email, and we’ll go through these steps with you ( for both civilian and military.  See also our FAQs  http://www.victorygirl.com/f-a-q/ or our jacket paint process pages):

  • What kind of design do you have in mind? — We discuss your ideas and collect images you might have or go hunting for ones that might work
  • What final output will your art become? -   If you’re interested in handpainted art, versus a sticker/decal, we need to know that up front, so we can tailor the imagry and our time frame to accommodate different steps of the design process.   If we’re handpainting an image, we need to know what surface we’re painting on (leather, metal, canvas…), and our schedule, which affects pricing.
  • When do you need the artwork delivered? - We build a deliverable schedule based on your needs.  We try to give you a fairly accurate estimate of when the artwork will be completed.   If you need something quick, let us know and we’ll do what we can to move projects around to meet your needs.

Making a Mockup

We always generate a mockup of your artwork to confirm the design before we do any production work. This could be a rough pencil sketch, a collection of images assembled in Photoshop, or a quick modification of an existing design. Regardless, you will ALWAYS get some image to say ‘yeay’, or ‘nay’ to before we start painting.

Paying the Piper

Well, yes, at some point we have to take money for all this fun.  Nose art projects generally have three separate costs:  Design, Output, and Shipping.

Design

If  you are part of an active military unit, we are happy to help you design a concept, at no charge.   This means we’ll make a few mockups for  you, and, if you need a pinup girl created, we’ll  do that for free as well.  In return,  we ask that you allow us to create the final artwork output (posters, T-shirts, stickers, etc.)   to help keep our supplier partners in business.   For civilian clients, we have  initial discussions with you and perhaps do a little research to better aid our concept understanding.    We then provide an estimate of the design and output costs for you, in writing.

Nose art designs can take from 2-40 hours to create, so we usally can’t give a specific price without some discussion of your design needs. Generally, however, developing an image (to the point where it can be printed to an output medium) can cost from $45-700.   The average design price runs about $360.

Output

What your nose art will end up on decides how much it will cost to produce it.  Either  as a  sticker, t-shirt,  poster, handpainted metal, or all of the above, each  has a unit price that we’ll provide for you.    We’ll also gladly provide you a high resolution  file of the image  upon request.   We generally do not provide copyrights; these remain with the artist.  Copyrights CAN be transferred upon written agreement with all parties and an additional copyright fee.

Shipping

Depending on the output and where its headed, we’ll also give you an estimate of the shipping costs – USPS, UPS or FedEx.

Making Schedule

The workload changes daily in an art studio, so please contact us with your schedule requirements.  Generally, it can take 3-8 weeks, using phone and emails, to get a concept from the deep recesses of our collective brains, into the warm yellow light of the studio, and nto a useful medium that you can use.   As noted above, if you’re in a hurry, we ’ll take what steps we can  to get you some results  in the timeframe you need them.
